Best Time to Visit Oman

The best time to visit Oman is from October to April, when days in Muscat are warm rather than hot and nights in the desert and mountains are cool. December to February is the most comfortable and the busiest. From May to September it is very hot inland and on the northern coast, except in Salalah, where the khareef turns the hills green from late June to September.

Seasons in more detail

November to February

Winter: the classic touring season

Days are sunny and comfortable, perfect for long drives, desert camps and hiking. Mountain and desert nights can be cold, so bring a warm layer.

March to April

Spring: roses on Jebel Akhdar

Days warm up and the crowds thin. The rose terraces of Jebel Akhdar bloom and villages distil rose water. Plan outdoor activities for the morning.

May to September

Summer: Salalah's khareef

Too hot for most touring in the north, but the best time for Salalah: the hills of Dhofar turn green, waterfalls run and temperatures stay mild.

October

Autumn: the new season begins

Days are still hot at first but cool quickly, and roads and hotels are quieter than in winter.

All year

Turtles at Ras al Jinz

Green turtles nest at Ras al Jinz all year. Nesting is busiest in the warmer months, and summer is the best time to see them.

Moves each year

Ramadan

Ramadan moves about 11 days earlier each year. Tours still run, but please avoid eating and drinking in public during daylight. Hotels serve guests as usual.
